Improvement on Storage Wardrobe


Prefabricated storage wardrobe is one of the requirements in the life of a student. Storage wardrobes are used for storing clothes for staying in rented house. Prefabricated storage wardrobes are available in the market near you easily. The price offered is reasonable according to the type and quality of materials. Storage wardrobe is composed of several iron rods attached to the connector.





The dimension of the storage wardrobe:
Width: 75cm
Depth: 50cm
Height: 156cm
Rod Diameter: 1cm



From my analysis, the storage wardrobe is assuming to be fixed on the floor. The applied force on the center rod is distributed along it which is about 300N that approximately 30kg. The connector that mention early was assumed to be same as material properties as the rod. In real life, when the load applied, the storage wardrobe will tendency to move to the right or left at point of center rod that will proceed to fall. From the element analysis, the center rod will start to bend (see picture for more information). The maximum Von Misses stress is about 4.10329e+7N/m^2.



There are many ways to improve the design of the storage wardrobe. Firstly, we can increase the radius of the rod, by increase the radius of the rod, the shear stress will decrease. Secondly, we can decrease the height of the wardrobe. Decreasing the height will lower the centeroid that will make the wardrobe more stable. It also means to lower the center of gravity. Thirdly, we can lengthen the width. This action also lowers the center of gravity which makes it more stable when in static condition. Fourthly, we can make change the shape as pyramid, this will result wardrobe to be more stable. Fifthly, we can add more support on the center rod. The applied force is fully distributed on the center rod. By adding more support on the center rod, the wardrobe will decrease the tendency to fall. Sixthly, we can also reduce the length of wardrobe leg. It will increase the stability. Seventhly, we can also change the material used to increase the strength of the rod.



For the conclusion, the storage wardrobe can be more stable by changing the dimension. The center of gravity also can be lower by changing the dimension. The strength of the wardrobe can be change be adding more supporting element on the center rod also on the body structure.
